D.O.G.S. of Pray debut 'The Rise'
5/19/2008 - Rants and Raves
This album is filled with tracks that serve to remind how polished hard rock should sound. Bobbi Folk is simply superb from the backup echoes on "My Conviction" through the powerful performance of the closing track, "Righteous Awakens". Spin tingling. Powerful.
From start to finish The Rise is an album that exemplifies consistently strong song writing, great arrangements and polished performances. The music is strong, inspiring and often touching. There is nothing weak about this album except the quality of the production. Which is in short extremely disappointing.
We had the pleasure of catching D.O.G.S. live three times this past summer and were simply blown away with their professionalism as well as the power and presence they project from the stage. Their shows are nothing short of an experience. They posses the ingredients to turn their Indie dream into an international sensation. But not unless their label is willing to invest in the product.
The production simply does not stack up to the quality of the live performance in any way. It sounds hollow and inconsistent from one track to another. This is typical of an Indie release, but certainly not able to compete with Radio rock. And that's a real shame. D.O.G.S. of Pray have the product and the talent to make the next big leap. They got the good stuff. But it's left to be seen if their label can translate that into a quality release. We'll be looking forward to hearing the next album.
Catch them on tour this summer in Ireland, Germany and in the USA at the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota. Their live show is awesome! <<Back
