As a musician you've been working your butt off trying to build a strong band and make the right connections to move your agenda forward. You've put in long hours of practice, invested in equipment and marketing, booked unpaid shows, even slept in the car a few times and made loads of sacrifices in a genuine effort to gain recognition and establish yourself as a player in the market. All of this, only to see some no name band jump in front of you and make great strides while you scratch your head and wonder how they did that. P.U.S.H. is one of those bands that came out of nowhere and has taken the market by storm.
Originally formed in 2003, P.U.S.H. has made great strides in a very short time. Geo was on a mission to first organize a band of brothers. It took five years of searching and turning over rocks to finalize the current roster. Seeing these guys together and watching them perform is evidence that it was time and effort well spent. P.U.S.H. is a very tight group of guys both musically and socially; a key ingredient in a successful working band.
Immediately after solidifying the line-up, lead guitarist and founder Geo, bassist Mr. Space, vocalist and backing guitars Johnny Black and drummer Jamie Loud, went to work organizing and perfecting twenty original tunes. After spending countless hours in the studio and a whole lot of money they whittled down the best eight songs for their debut CD.
The album was recorded and produced at Invisible Sound Studios in Baltimore, Maryland, with studio engineer Dave Nachodsky. Geo tells us Dave worked them really hard to get the best of the best on every take. The effort shines through loud and clear. This CD is well produced with a solid performance by every band member. The P.U.S.H. debut CD, due to release at the end of May, is a great selection of tunes that place their focus on the one thing all rock stars want more of; sex.
At first listen these tunes reflect the glory days of rock n roll when Kiss really was king and Motley Crue were carving their way to the top. Jump in a little deeper and explore the riffs and lyrics and it becomes apparent P.U.S.H. used that traditional 80s sound to forge an all original product that appeals to all ages and across many boundaries; though your mom may not approve of the content. That issue comes head on when we start talking about marketing.
P.U.S.H. seems to be hitting on all cylinders and not entirely due to a strong collection of songs. They have invested a great deal of time and money into the project in both their recordings and marketing initiatives. Their website, at www.pushkicksass.com, is top shelf and easily competes with national artists; custom designed by BandChi! of course. But let's not forget merchandising. They have what might be THE coolest T-shirt on the market, if you like boobs that is, a P.U.S.H.ies thong (their fan club is called PUSHies, of course), and they are creating some other unique items to add to the line. P.U.S.H. is not only a great band, but a money machine to boot.
All these efforts have paid off as they recently signed with VTE Entertainment, a Mid-Atlantic booking and management company that has in its own right taken the market by storm. The P.U.S.H. calendar is filled with months of paying gigs and even appearances that include an opening slot for Jimmy VanZant and American Idol performers, among other celebrities; some of which will grace the P.U.S.H. CD party with their presence. Let's get real. This sounds like the party to attend. With big names and big breasts running around the only thing missing will be an address from the President; they're working on that too I believe.
P.U.S.H. is a strong product that has pulled all the right strings and pushed all the right buttons with a dedicated mission in mind. They have a look, a sound, an attitude and a strong following that continues to grow exponentially. Keep in mind though that they are also smart guys. While every swinging John wants to do all original music thinking they will win the gold ring, P.U.S.H. has been happy to support themselves doing cover gigs and sliding originals into their set, then doing what they do best; impressing friends and fans.
They may not be able to give up their lives of crime in exchange for a music career just yet. But without any hesitation this writer can tell you they are on the brink of making a living doing what they love.
Check out P.U.S.H. at www.pushkicksass.com and make plans to get to the CD release party May 29th. It's going to be a rockin' good time and possibly filled with insolent debauchery. What's not to love about that? Keep your eyes on these guys as they continue to catapult themselves into the spotlight by working hard and working smart.
